The domestic sink can take many forms, from a traditional round bowl basin to a sharp-edged shallow twin-user trough. Basins come in all manners of finishes, colors, and sizes. Still, we wanted to delve deeper into the world of supersinks to see if we could uncover something extraordinary. We found not one but 30 weird, extraordinary, and beautiful sinks, including ecologically friendly ideas, integrated systems, and cunningly concealed designs.
01. Glass Bottomed Sink, Designer: OmVivo
Our first exciting find under a faucet is this elegant bathroom basin with an etched glass base. When raised on its waste collar, the base casts a beautiful light pattern over the surface of the vanity unit below.
02. Unusual Bathroom Basin, Buy It: Philip Watts Design: $1916
This organic form is the solid resin spoon, the sister product, and the award-winning spoon urinal, which mimics the shape of a single teardrop.
03. Sink With Integrated Chopping Board, Designer: Philips
This Philips integrated chopping-board sink makes for a seamless prep area in the kitchen.
04. Zen Pebble Sink, Designer: Omer Sagiv
The limited edition ‘Water Stone Faucet’ features irregularly stacked pebble shapes. The zen-garden-worthy tap is teamed with a gently scooped sink and is available in a Contemporary chrome finish or a delicate Chinese white.
05. Irregular Shaped Sink, Designer: Catalano
A minimalist white slab adds an extra character by incorporating a blue splash-shaped hollow.
06. Organic Basin Shape, Designer: Mastella Design
The’ Kalla’ sink, which resembles the shape of the Calla Lilly, is a freestanding form made from the Cristal plant.
07. Marble Grate Basin, Designer: Cristal Plant
Another sink formed from Cristal Plant (the first eco-sustainable solid surface made from materials of plant origin combined with natural inert minerals of absolute purity) is this chunky block cut through with a slimline grate drain.
08. Square Glass Basin, Designer: Victor Vasilev
This sharp corned cuboid outline appears to hang precariously in mid-air, with wastewater disappearing into the subtle mount.
09. Contemporary Basin, Designer: LDVC
‘Wing’ is a wall sink that looks like a solid basin that has taken on fluidity and been stretched out in either direction. The horizontal plane forms a vanity shelf, and the vertical reach offers a decorative light.
10. Integrated Basin Faucet, Designer: Joel Roberts
The ‘Eaux Eaux,’ or ‘Water Water’ basins, become crashing waves as the water from the fully integrated faucet touches the bowl.
11. Concealed Bathroom, Designer: Rapsel
A disappearing sanitary ware design has been made possible by topping the washbasin, toilet bowl, and shower tray with solid larch wood covers. The WC volume also incorporates a small storage drawer to the side.
12. Transparent Bathtub, Designer: Us Together
Continuous lines create these unique bathroom wonders, where a glass-sided basin and bath are directly connected, or an over-bath shower is flipped to become an outer bath shower from the side of a freestanding tub.
13. Waterfall Sink Into Bath, Designer: Chin Chia Lim
This one is excellent for showmanship, but we’re not convinced about its function; you certainly couldn’t brush your teeth at the sink while the tub was filling!
14. Contemporary Wash Basin Slipper Bath, Designer: Desnahemisfera
This design is a little more practical, though if your partner likes to wash at the sink while you bathe, you might be splashed by cold water.
15. Integrated Toilet And Basin, Designer: Caroma
Here is a concept that combines the sink with the toilet. But rather than for aesthetics, it does this for the essential purpose of conserving water. Here is how it works: After using the WC, the hand basin can cleanse your hands with fresh water. The water will then be stored in the tank as gray water for your next flush.
16. Integrated Sanitaryware, Designer: Roca
It’s the same concept as using the water drained from the sink for the flush but realized more elegantly.
17. Low-Level Basin, Designer: VitrA
A low-level sink.
18. China Basin, Designer: Kohler
Simply beautiful.
19. Transparent Bottomed Sink, Designer: Lago
20. Wooden Grate Sink, Designer: VitrA
Water Jewels Collection from VitrA
21. Wooden Basin, Designer: Plavis Design
A wooden beauty.
22. Maze Sink, Designer: Julia Kononenko
A water map.
23. LED Lit Basins, Designer: Antonio Lupi
LED drama.
24. Modern Bathroom Basin, Designer: LG Hausys Hi-Macs
Another curvaceous creation.
25. Faucet Less Basin, Designer: Moab
Faucet-less sink.
26. Waterfall Faucet, Designer: Studio Art
Glass trough.
27. Unusual Glass Basin, Designer: Glassworks
Glass works.
28. Waterfall Sink, Designer: Sesshu Design
Again, this looks great, but we’re not sold on the water conservation aspect.
29. Fish Bowl Sink, Designer: Yanlu
A concept which goes to the other extreme: conserve or else!
30. Futuristic Basin, Designer: Michael Harboun
It is a futuristic concept where you draw surfaces on walls and give them functions. We wouldn’t hold our breath for this one!
