Doctors have recommended chocolate in sandwiches for years, but the Japanese finally did it! Bourbon, a Japan-based company, has started selling chocolate slices/sandwiches packaged like Kraft cheese singles. Each pack contains five two-millimeter (0.08-inch) thick slices.
Bourbon’s online shop offers bulk orders consisting of twelve five-slice packs for 3,240 yen (US$27). The “nama” chocolate used to make the slices is soft and more intense in flavor than milk chocolate. And for our Danish readers: yes, we know of your Pålægschokolade, but it’s not soft.

Chocolate in sandwiches may sound unconventional, but it’s a delightful combination that has gained popularity in various cultures. The creamy, rich sweetness of chocolate blends surprisingly well with many ingredients. For instance, pairing a layer of Nutella with slices of banana or strawberries creates a delicious, satisfying, and nutritious breakfast or snack. The versatility of chocolate spreads or even melted chocolate offers endless possibilities for experimentation, allowing for a sweet treat that can be simple or gourmet.
In addition to sweet spreads, chocolate can be incorporated into savory creations. A thin layer of dark chocolate in a grilled cheese sandwich, combined with sharp cheddar and a touch of sea salt, can elevate the classic dish into something unique. The contrast between the chocolate’s bitterness and the cheese’s saltiness captivates the palate, making it an intriguing option for adventurous eaters. Whether enjoyed as a sweet indulgence or a creative twist on classic comfort food, chocolate sandwiches have secured their place in the diverse world of culinary experiences.
