Japanese artist Akie Nakata, also known as Akie the “Stone Artist,” describes her stone art as a “collaboration between two fragments in the earth.” Why, you might ask? The answer is easy enough if you take a moment to appreciate the artist’s hard work. Akie uses stones she finds in nature to create unique works of art. She uses blunt stones and paints them as various animals, such as cats, dogs, owls, and even fish. Each stone shape is unique and requires a different approach to get her idea across. Some figures might seem odd or uncomfortable to paint on, but the artist makes it work, and it looks like the stone was meant to look like this.
